Need some advice on shops to go in Hong Kong

Post by Ultimatron on Sat 06 Aug 2011, 9:37 am

My dad is going to hongkong! so im thinking of asking him to help me get a few kits.

he said he will be heading to mongkok and i saw the recommendation by Tuner bro and liang

Mongkok - Yan On Building, No.1 Kwong Wah Street, next to Paradise Square

lookout for a certain shop called JBO Hobby..
u wont miss it.. coz the moment u walk in.. rows and rows of 1/35, 1/48 resins gundams and FSS welcomes u..

I intend to get RG Char Zaku & Zaku , Formania Sazabi and maybe SMS 1/24 Hi Nu Head.

was wondering, does JBO sell those items i want? cause from what i see is mainly G System resin.

Any shop name or address to buy from would be deeply appreciated! thanks!

sorry should be CTMA Centre lol..not CDMA..

JBO Hobby is located at 1st floor of Yan On Building..
basically only the ground floor of Yan On Building is opened to public, i dont think u can go up any level..
u definitely wont miss it when u get there..

Btw, there's an official Enterbay shop there too..if u are interested in any mini-men..

    Just came back from HK.

I have a few places to recommend for Transformers and Gundam.

    1. In's Point

    2. Sino Centre

    3. Shops along Tai Yuen road

I managed to find RG Freedom going for 28sgd and the new MG Heavy Arms at 51sgd

Didn't buy any Gundams because I bought Transformers instead =)

Richmond building (Richmond Commercial Bldg, 107-111 Argyle Street,Hong Kong) for Resins,

In's Point (530-538 Nathan Road, Hong Kong) for p-bandai kits, metal build and many other limited kits.

if u into DSLR, the lens there also quite cheap.

Currently in HK for my university exchange, was out exploring when by coincidence I found this place.

Tai Yuen Street (Wan Chai). It's a street that looks like all the street vendors and stuff, but look beyond those stalls to the shopfront lining the streets. There's like 3-4 shops selling gundam/lbx models there. Quite abit of figurines for those who are into it as well. Not a bad place to explore.

Prices wise, for HG kits it ranges 95-120hkd (so thats about <$20). RG is 140hkd (<$25). LBX are like <100hkd. So ya, pretty cheap Smile

Just to update here for the bros. Spent the whole of today walking around HK just for gunpla. So yupz these are the best places I feel it is for buying gunpla.

Waile Model Centre - 221 Wanchai Road
This is a like a hobby shop. Sells BB guns, tamiya and gunpla. But it has one of the most diverse range of gunpla I have ever seen in HK. Prices wise its alittle more exp than what you can find here in HK, but still cheaper than in SG. But I feel the range more than makes up for it.

Yan On Building - 1 Kwong Wa Street, Mongkok
If you are in the area of Mongkok, can give this place a try. It's just two streets away from the main shopping district. It's mainly concentrated on the first floor, like an alley selling hobby stuff. Gunpla wise I saw like afew only shops only. There's this one (one of the first you would see when you enter the alley) which has a pretty good range, but prices its abit steep. The second one is another shop solely dedicated to gunpla, so you wun miss it. Prices is normal for what you can find in HK, so pretty cheap Smile

Sino centre - 582 Nathan Road, Mongkok
One whole block dedicated to geeky hobby stuff. But gunpla wise only a few shops. There's only like 2 main ones on the second floor. I cannot get the name of the shop I frequent, but its somewhere on the left the escalator that you come up from. It's the only shop with like a shelve of gunpla. Prices is cheap thats why I frequent there.

    Tai Yuen Street - Wanchai
This street is not hard to locate, cos its like a market so there's like signs to it. I got my gunpla from here, cos it has the cheapest if you look around hard enough. In total there's like 2 main shops selling gunpla. Be mindful the shops are legit shops, so they would very likely be hidden by all the stalls/carts are the by the road. So if you looking for them, walk behind the stalls, not the main road. Facing the road, the two stalls are on the left and right respectively. Shouldn't be hard to find bcos they will have like boxes of gunpla stacked outside their shops. Prices here are the cheapest so I like to look around here.

Yupz, thats pretty much the lowdown I have for Hong Kong gunpla shops. Of course if you guys have any suggestions/need me to help recce feel free to say here. I can go down and have a look anytime till end of this year Smile
